DESERT ISLAND DISCS COMES TO TUDDENHAM!
Desert Island Discs came to Tuddenham Village Hall recently when the Ipswich Bach Choir had a very successful fund-raising evening, presenting their own version of the well-known radio programme. Brain child of chorister Mary Bolton, friends and members enjoyed the evening of music and stories from nine 'castaways' plus an excellent supper.
In the Roy Plomley role was the choir's Musical Director, Patrick McCarthy, who quizzed his guests about their choices: Tubby the Tuba, Karl Jenkins' The Armed Man, How Lovely are Thy Dwellings, a Welsh hymn, amongst others. The choir's Treasurer, Paul Greenewich, had a particularly interesting tale to tell of an electronic instrument called the Theremin which was invented by one of his ancestors and used by Bernard Herrmann on the famous science fiction film, The Day the Earth Stood Still.
Favourite books were stowed away for reading at the desert island along with such luxuries as photograph albums and equipment for recording the song of exotic birds.
Asked for his own choice, Patrick went for Wagner's Lohengrin, War and Peace and his old violin.
£380 was raised for the choir – a most successful evening!
